Day three - Travelling across the border

On Wednesday, most of the day was taken up with travelling across the border into Peru. We travelled across el altiplano which gave us fantastic views of the countryside, the Andes and Lake Titicaca. We took 3 buses and a boat.

When we arrived in Peru our passports were scrutinised carefully but thankfully we were allowed in! 3 and a half hours later, we arrived in Puno, 3800m above sea level with a population of around 200,000 people. Immediately, we saw a difference between Puno and La Paz.

Although the culture is very similar, this city is much more developed. Henry, our tour guide, showed us around the centre of Puno, visiting the church and local markets.

Check out these cute children whose outfits were completely knitted - down to their leggings!

We had to buy some gifts for our families ready for our home stay so we took advice from he market stall holders. Rice, oil, tinned tuna, condensed milk, apples, oranges and what we think were pomegranates. That evening, we were taken to a local restaurant which had music and dancing. The performers wore traditional clothing and had endless energy.

We enjoyed a pisco sour and llama! Later, we sang the night away at Karaoke. Luckily there is no photo evidence!
